About us

Who we are

MusicInMarlow is run on a voluntary basis by Martin and Jean Ashford, out of our love of music and our association with Christ Church URC, of which this is a project. Christ Church was built in 1840 and beautifully modernised in 2002-3.

We started our regular concert programme in 2012 and, by the end of 2019, had run 65 events.

What we do

We put on the kinds of music that we enjoy hearing! That includes instrumental recitals, chamber music, jazz, choral and occasionally other genres.

We bring professional musicians to the town but also provide a platform for young and amateur players. Suggestions welcome - and do get in touch if you would like to offer us a performance.

Your support

Proceeds from tickets may be used to pay the musicians, to cover the costs of publicity, and where shown to raise money for specified causes such as Christian Aid.

Any remaining profit is donated to the church, for the Music Fund or New Project Fund. We funded purchase of the church's 1901 Bechstein grand piano.

Next events

Saturday 26th February, 7.30 pm.

'A celebration of Dennis Brain' -

French horn and piano recital by

Alexei Watkins and Harry Rylance.

Another wonderful young professional musician, Alexei has already played many of the prestigious London venues so it's a real privilege to bring him to Marlow.  Most of the works in his programme will be associated with the memory of Dennis Brain, whose centenary slipped by last year.

Sunday 3rd April, 7.30 pm.  'Sunrise, Sunset'.  A programme exploring some lighter repertoire, both classical and from the shows, by Christine Cunnold (soprano) and Richard Harker (piano).

Sunday 24th April, 3.30 pm.  Quintessential Brass will bring us music for (or arranged for) brass quintet from the Renaissance to modern times.  The group is all from the High Wycombe area but we've never heard them together before, so we're looking forward to this chance.  With tea and cakes too!

Sunday 15th May, 7.00 pm. Members of Taplow Choirs, performing in support of Christian Aid.  Taplow's finest young singers, under the baton of Gillian Dibden MBE.  Details to be confirmed, but we know it will be another lovely evening so keep that date.
